My Kid Won’t Eat Vegetables. Now What?

This is a sponsored post for which I’ve received free product, but the opinions are 100% my own.

I have a confession to make and it’s kind of embarrassing.  My family is a real food family and my son absolutely refuses to eat vegetables.  He won’t even let anything green touch his plate.  It is so frustrating!  I beg him to eat vegetables.  I let him help me prepare salads thinking he will eat them.  I require him to try “just a little” and nothing works.  He very politely says, “No thank you” to vegetables time and time again.  He is a smart kid.  He knows vegetables are good for him.  When planning a healthy meal for a Cub Scout project he was the kid that suggested they make a salad with lots of vegetables.  He just didn’t eat it.  Uggh!

Nutrition is important.  In order for my son to do his best at school and sports, he needs to be fueled for a busy day.  I refuse to give up on this kid’s nutrition.  I know from talking with friends that I am not alone.  Some kids love vegetables and some kids politely repeat time and time again, “No thank you!”  Today, I am sharing how I address good nutrition for my non-veggie eating son.  I hope my methods will be a help to you as well.

Tips For Adding Nutrition For A Picky Eater

Be a good example:  By eating vegetables in front of your children, they will learn the importance of eating meals that are full of a variety of nutrients.  They will also see that vegetables are foods that are enjoyable to eat.  One day, they will eat vegetables and it will be because you were a good food role model for them.

Reward with praise:  Anytime my kid comes close to eating a vegetable……putting a veggie on his plate or taking a tiny bite, I reward with lots of praise.  I know it’s crazy, but I’m trying to teach him that vegetables are a good thing.  Praise and reminders that vegetables are good for his body is so important.

Hide vegetables:  I want my child to appreciate the wonderful flavors of vegetables, but sometimes I just need to hide them in foods he loves.  I finely shred carrots and onions for my meatloaf.  I include leafy greens in his smoothies. I always add extra veggies to our pasta sauce.  He eats it all without a complaint.  It’s a little sneaky, but I dump the guilt and enjoy that he is getting much needed nutrition to fuel his busy days.

Supplement with a Multivitamin:  I started my real food journey dreaming of a life where all of our nutrition needs were met with delicious whole foods.  That dream came to a crashing halt when I realized my little guy was not going to eat all of the variety of nutrients that vegetables provide.  A good multivitamin is a good solution.  So many of the vitamins that I found at the store were full of all sorts of junky ingredients that I don’t like to feed my children.  Then, I discovered Rhino Gummy Multivitamins.

Ingredients

Rhino™ Gummy Multivitamin is a complete multivitamin and mineral formula that is gluten free, does not contain high fructose corn syrup, and only contains colors derived from plants, fruits and vegetables.  You know how I hate artificial colors!  I will NOT give my kid a multi vitamin with artificial colors.  My son loves the natural cherry, berry and citrus flavors.  I have no trouble getting him to take his vitamins! I love that the Rhino Multivitamin gives my son additional nutritional support with essential nutrients.

And now is your chance to give the Rhino™ Gummy Multivitamins a try.  We are giving away 6 prizes.  Just enter below for your chance to try out this multivitamin.  Click on the Rafflecopter link for all of the details.

Oh, the classic veggie standoff! 😆 You’d think broccoli was pure evil the way kids react. I swear mine can detect a microscopic shred of spinach in mac & cheese from a mile away. Maybe if I rebrand carrots as ‘orange french fries,’ I’ll have a chance. 🤔😂 Love these tips—time for some sneaky parenting!

13 years ago, I hit publish on my very first blog post. Back then, my kids were still young, and I was deep in the “mom life” of packing lunches, rushing to practices, and trying to figure out how to keep real food on the table without losing my mind. 🍎🥦

Fast forward to today, and here I am—a grandmother! 👵💖 Life looks a little different now, but the heart of this community hasn’t changed. It’s still about juggling the busyness of life, making space for the people we love, and finding joy in real food (and real moments).

I never imagined that this little corner of the internet would become such a special part of my life for over a decade. Thank you for being here—whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or just found me recently. You are the reason this space is still going strong. 💕

Here’s to 13 years of memories, lessons, recipes, and laughter… and to many more ahead! 🥂

Drop me a comment and tell me how long you’ve been hanging out here—I’d love to know!

Young dancers need more than sparkly costumes and strong muscles—they need the right fuel to stay focused and energized all class long. 💃🥗

Balanced meals with carbs + protein + healthy fats are the secret to avoiding mid-class crashes and powering through those long practices. And don’t forget water—hydration is just as important as the food they eat! 💧

👉 In Part 1 of my new series on Fueling Young Dancers with Real Food, I’m sharing simple tips and snack ideas to help dancers shine at the studio.

What’s your dancer’s favorite pre-class snack? 🍎🥜
