Have you ever thought about what actually stops you from eating healthy foods? I bet you have a million excuses. I know I did and still do at times. I’m too busy. I don’t have time. I don’t know which foods are actually healthy. I don’t like to get apple in my teeth. Apple in my teeth? What is she talking about?
Let me tell you……………………….
I am a grown woman with children of my own and the reason I wasn’t eating apples is because I used to wear braces when I was a teenager. I know. I
know. That’s nuts. To this day, I don’t like the feeling of biting into a whole apple. I find it uncomfortable and it takes the enjoyment of eating a delicious apple away for me. I also hate getting apple stuck in my teeth. That goes back to my orthodontist as well. He warned me that if I didn’t wear my retainer, I would have trouble with food particles in my teeth. He told me that it was probably no big deal now, but when I was 30, it would be. Darn it! That man was right.
So what is a fruit and veggie lover to do? Use the right tools. Since I purchased my two apple tools, I eat apples all of the time and so do my kids. I use the apple corer when making applesauce and for making apple sandwiches. They are great for mealtime or anytime really. Quick to make and super delicious. I use my apple wedge tool when I want to dip my apple in peanut butter or just eat it plain. There are so many varieties of apples so each one is its own delight.
And the good news is that I no longer have to worry about my teeth phobias. My tools fixed that for me. Which reminds me……..my daughter lost a baby tooth the other night while eating a whole apple on our way to her dance class. Gross! Oh well………..I’ll try not to pass my phobias on to my children. But just in case they develop them as well, I am teaching them how to use the tools.
Curious about making apple sandwiches? Super easy………use an apple corer or cookie cutter to create a hole in the center of your apple. Cut the apple into slices. The apple is the “bread” of your sandwich. Using a knife, spread peanut butter on your sandwich. Don’t load too much into the hole area or you will have a mess on your hands. Place second apple slice on top and enjoy. They are really good made in this simple way, but you can add lots of other sandwich fixins as well. We like, granola, raisins, dried cherries, bananas and for a more dessert-like treat…………..bits of dark chocolate.
Give the apple sandwiches a try. You’ll be glad you did. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you like to put on your sandwiches.
