Today is January 2, 2013. The year is ahead of us and full of promise and excitement. We can be whoever we want at this point. This is the year that I can start off saying my family eats healthy, but I still want to eat healthier. 2013 starts off much better for me than 2012, because I start the year with hope and excitement rather than fear and illness. I spent 4 months of 2012 doing intense research of food and it’s health benefits. I also learned how eating the wrong foods can cause chronic illness. I have drastically changed how my family eats on a daily basis and we have already seen the benefits of this change.
I view my change in eating habits as a Real Food Journey. This is not a change that has
taken place overnight. It takes time to convert eating habits, especially when you start out as bad as we were. The more I learn, the better off our health will be now and in the future. I am ravenous for information to fine-tune our eating. However, the good news is that I know by eating Real Food, regardless of what that food is, my family is better off than when we were eating a diet of fast and processed food.
I also know as we start 2013, that it IS possible to eat Real Food while Juggling my Real Life. I will say that it is NOT easy, but it is so worth it. It takes some planning and a change in priorities, but I am doing it. I faced the obstacle of Christmas and New Years and came out a winner. Sure, I ate more sugar than I do when it’s not the holidays, but I came out the other side proud of all the new recipes I was able to share with my family and friends. I still haven’t been to a drive-through window since June, and for our family…….that’s really saying something.
As I wrap up here, I would like to say that what I am most proud of is not the changes I have been able to make for my family, but the changes that they have been able to make for themselves. My kids still act like all the other kids I know. They are tempted by sugar that is put in front of them all the time. However, they are learning to make healthier choices for themselves. At the bare minimum, they now know when they are making a healthy choice and when they are not. My husband has embraced this change completely. To hear him talk, people may wonder which one us is the food blogger. It is gratifying to know that I am being heard.
