Easy Recipe: Tropical Strawberry Natural Fruit Punch

This week at the Real Food Experience we are talking all about artificial food dyes.  We are working to purge them from our lives for good.  They are shown to cause cancer, ADHD-like behavior in children, and deceive consumers into thinking they are eating fruit or vegetables when they are not.

That all makes a lot of sense, but what are we moms to do when are kids are begging for fun and colorful drinks?  It’s actually easier than you might think because fruit has plenty of color.  There is a whole rainbow of fruit to choose from.

Tropical Strawberry Natural Fruit Punch

Natural fruit punches are recipes that are very similar to smoothie recipes.  We just leave out the yogurt and make it a little less thick so it is drinkable.  I love these natural fruit punches for parties and anytime we want a fun and fruity drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Orange Juice
  • 1 Cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1 Cup Fresh Strawberries Chopped
  • 2 Pinches of shredded coconut (more or less to taste)
  • 1 Cup of Milk
  • 2 Cups of Ice
Directions:

Toss all ingredients into a blender and give it a whirl until blender runs smooth. When I make this punch, the coconut is still chewy.  I like it this way because I feel like I’m eating something.  If you have texture issues, you may want to leave the coconut out.  You can double, triple, etc. the recipe to meet the needs of your group.  It is best to make it and then serve it right away so that all of the ingredients remain blended together. It’s that easy!  Colorful, fun, and fruity…………and the best part is that there are no artificial food dyes to worry about.  Go ahead and have a colorful party!  Just leave the food dyes out.  I promise you won’t miss them.

What other ways do you include color into your parties without using artificial food dyes?  Have you ever thought about food dyes?  Are food dyes something that concern you?  Let me hear it………leave your comments below and let’s get the conversation going.

I promise to keep bringing you the best and most accurate information on nutrition I can find……….and hopefully with a little bit of humor along the way as well.
