Welcome back to Day 7 of Freedom from Clutter in 40 Days. We are making quite a bit of progress decluttering our homes as we are working through this 40 day program. If you are tired of the burden of clutter then this series is for you. Day by day we are getting rid of the items that weigh us down, slow us down, and get in the way of having time to spend with our families. What is really fun about this project is that we are sharing our real struggles with clutter. There are no organization experts here. We are just real people sharing our real life experiences with our frustrations and joy as we declutter our homes.
We invite you to join our special Facebook group to share your ideas, joys, concerns, and declutter stories with us. Together, we are learning to find Freedom from Clutter. This is a focused 40 day program, but we plan to keep the group going all year long. You can join at any time. We can’t wait to talk to you over there.
Random Number Declutter Method
Clutter can really clog up the working of your home. We all know that searching for missing keys, lost permissioin slips, and a complete baseball uniform when you are rushing to get somewhere can drive you bonkers. We also know that taking the time to declutter isn’t a whole lot of fun either. As with all things, our attitude and the energy we give to a project makes all the difference. My husband teases me about how I’m always trying to make mundane tasks fun. I don’t always succeed, but I’m trying to add a fun element to decluttering our homes.
The Random Number Declutter Method is one way that I try to make decluttering fun for my family. Ok let’s be honest……it’s not Disney fun, but at least it’s a little fun. My kids love games and they are highly competitive so this is perfect for them. Give this declutter method a try and then circle back and let me know how it works for you.

Have the the kids pick a number. Let’s say any number from 1-20. Then, send them off looking through the house for items they feel are no longer needed. You may want to add some rules like it has to be something from their room. We don’t want them deciding Dad’s favorite old shirt is no longer needed……….even if they are right. Set a timer and see who can contribute the most items to the random number. Another variation is to let everyone have their own bag and see who can gather the random number of items the quickest.
Keep your energy up and enjoy the time together. You can then challenge yourself to another round of decluttering when they are done. Wow! You are really making progress now. I bet you can even find your keys now.
Leave me a comment and let me know if your family is up for this decluttering game. What other things do you do to get your family involved in the declutter process?
On another note……..if you are interested in simple recipes your family is sure to love, make sure you check out my recipe index. I am adding new recipes all of the time so make sure you check back often. You will also want to grab this free meal-planning printable calendar to make your meal planning easier. It has areas to plan your daily activities and your evening meal prep.
