Some of my favorite kitchen moments happen when the kids and I are inventing something simple, fun, and (dare I say) a bit indulgent — without loading it with junk. Way back in 2015, I shared a “sneak peek” post where we tried out Yoplait Greek 100 Whips to create three effortless desserts. That post still gets traffic, so I thought — why not breathe new life into it?
We’ll revisit those original ideas, refresh them for today’s tastes, and toss in ideas to turn them into lunchbox-worthy treats. (Because yes, dessert can moonlight as a bento-box hero.)
What’s Changed Since 2015?
- Ingredient transparency matters more than ever. Back then I celebrated no artificial colors in Whips; now I’m also scrutinizing added sugars, sweeteners, and labels.
- Moms and kids are even busier now. Quick-prep, make-ahead, multipurpose recipes win.
- Lunchbox demands have grown — we want something portable, safe from leaks, kid-friendly, and secretly nutritious.
- I’ve written a ton more here about “School Lunches” and “Kids in the Kitchen” — so I’ve linked out to those to help you adapt beyond dessert.
The Dessert Trio (Revisited + Upgraded)
These are all single-serving, easy-prep treats — perfect for whipping up after dinner or sneaking into lunchboxes.
Note: The original post used Yoplait Greek 100 Whips in Vanilla Cupcake flavor (already sweetened), so none of these need extra sugar”. jugglingrealfoodandreallife.com
1. Very Berry Frozen Yogurt
What to do:
- Blend ½ cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries) with one container of Whips.
- Garnish with a few dark chocolate chips or shaved zest.
Why it’s great: -
Fast, no cooking.
-
Cold and creamy — perfect in warmer months.
-
Kids love the “frozen treat” feel.
Lunchbox tweak:
-
Freeze in a small silicone mold or Popsicle-style container. It’ll stay semi-solid until lunch.
-
Or pack in an insulated jar and freeze it overnight — it’ll thaw just enough by midday.
-
Add a sprinkle of chia seeds or granola in a separate mini-container.
2. Triple Berry Mousse Parfait
What to do:
-
Chop strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.
-
Stir in a drizzle of honey (optional) + a squeeze of lemon.
-
Layer fruit, then Whips, then repeat. Finish with cinnamon or a few dark chocolate chips.
Why it’s great:
-
Elegant enough for guests, easy enough for weeknights.
-
Combines fruit + fluff in one cup.
Lunchbox tweak:
-
Use a leak-proof 10-oz jar.
-
Keep fruit layer separate (in a small liner). When it’s time to eat, tilt and mix — kids get a mini “assembly moment.”
-
For younger kids, mash the berries a little so it’s less messy.
3. Dark Chocolate Chip Mousse
What to do:
-
Simply fold a small handful of dark chocolate chips directly into the Whips.
-
Stir gently so you keep the fluff.
Why it’s great:
-
No cooking, no extra sweeteners.
-
Satisfies a chocolate craving with minimal fuss.
Lunchbox tweak:
-
Pack in a wide-mouth thermos so kids can spoon directly out.
-
Add a little granola or nut crumble in a baggie to sprinkle on top right before eating.
New Ideas + Variations You’ll Love
-
Peanut Butter & Banana Swirl: Mash a bit of banana, swirl in a tsp of natural peanut butter, top with Whips.
-
Citrus Yogurt Clouds: Use mandarin segments or small orange slices; the bright flavor cuts the sweetness.
-
Frozen Yogurt Bark: Spread Whips + berry mix on parchment, freeze til firm, break into pieces. Great snack or lunchbox addition.
Real Food Wisdom + Tips
-
Even though Whips is already sweet, try boosting flavor with citrus zest, real fruit, vanilla extract, or spices like cinnamon or cardamom.
-
Use dark chocolate (70%+) chips for less sugar and more flavor.
-
Make a batch assembly station: chop fruits, pack toppings ahead, and let kids build their own dessert jars.
-
Leftovers? These mousse-style desserts keep well (tightly covered) for 24 hours in the fridge.

These three dessert ideas (plus their lunchbox adaptations) prove you can juggle real food, real life, and real fun all at once. They’re simple, flexible, and — most importantly — something your kids can help with (or devour).
Next time you’re hovering by the fridge thinking, “I’d love dessert… but I can’t stay up late to bake”, give one of these a try. And if you do adapt one into a lunchbox hit, I’d love to hear about it — drop a photo or idea in the comments or on Instagram. We are a community of busy mamas helping busy mamas.
